Sir Edward
The range the studio was founded on, and the one that gave the house its name: botanical murals and wide landscapes composed from antique botanical drawing and hand-painted illustration. Sir Edward himself is an imagined explorer, and the work travels with him — exotic flora, forgotten kingdoms, and the diversity of the natural world.
Sir Edward was founded in 2020 by Claire and Hans-Erik, who had spent the previous two years making wallpapers for their own home out of old paintings, drawings and chinoiserie. What drew them was the antique wall painting — the single continuous image found in castles, colonial mansions and canal houses, which fills a room without shouting at it. That idea still governs the range. A design begins as a composition; a team of international illustrators then hand-paints the individual elements — a particular animal in a particular pose, a tree, a sky — which are layered together and colour-matched. An average design runs to more than a hundred separate items and can take months to finish.
