Bangkok Stair Hall

A stair hall in an interior-designed Bangkok house: two storeys high, white walls, a coffered ceiling and a chandelier at its centre. The designer had already drawn the architecture onto the walls in tall black panel mouldings that step down with the stairs. The walls behind them needed a picture that could hold a space this tall without crowding it.

One landscape behind every frame

The answer was a bespoke scenic made for this house: trees, distant hills and a river in soft grey, drawn like an old engraving. At the foot of the stairs the river runs past reeds, a stone bridge and a village. Higher up the scene opens into branches and sky, and on the end wall a single great tree fills five panels at once.

The scene is one continuous picture, and the mouldings sit on top of it. A branch that disappears behind one black frame comes out of the next in the right place. That only works when the artwork is planned and printed to the measured wall, frame lines included, rather than cut from a standard roll.

Why grey, and why Premium Vinyl

Grey on warm white lets the black mouldings stay the strongest line in the room, so the picture reads as depth rather than pattern. From the hall below it looks like a view; on the stairs you are close enough to see each leaf.

It is printed on Premium Vinyl, a smooth matt vinyl that holds fine linework sharply and wipes clean. That matters on a staircase, where hands and bags brush the wall every day. It is hung with paste, so there is no self-adhesive edge for Bangkok humidity to lift.

Printed by Whiterose

The artwork was printed by Whiterose Design and hung by the house's own fit-out team. If you have a wall that needs a picture made for it, start with custom printed wallpaper. If you are an interior designer, our Trade Program covers samples, specification and printing to your drawings.
