How much curtain fabric do I need?

Choose a style, enter your window, and see the metres of fabric and lining to order. Add every window in the room — or the whole home — then send the list to us. We measure every window on site before anything is cut.

Whiterose Design makes curtains to measure in Bangkok. This calculator works out how much curtain fabric and lining to order for wave, double or triple pinch pleat, goblet and eyelet curtains, and for Roman blinds: the track width is multiplied by the style's fullness — two to two-and-three-quarter times — then rounded up to whole widths of cloth, each cut to your drop plus heading, hem and any pattern repeat.

Curtain fabric, explained

How curtain fabric is worked out

How much fabric do I need for curtains?

Multiply the track width by the style's fullness — about 2.3 times for wave, 2.5 for pinch pleat and 2 for eyelet, with pleated styles adding about 15 cm per curtain for the overlap and returns first — add side hems, and divide by the fabric width to get the number of widths. Multiply the widths by the cut drop, which is your finished drop plus roughly 30 cm for heading and hem. A 240 cm wide, 260 cm tall pair of wave curtains in 140 cm fabric needs about 14.8 metres.

What does curtain fullness mean?

Fullness is how much wider the flat fabric is than the track it hangs from. At 2.5 times fullness, a 2 metre track takes 5 metres of flat fabric, and that extra cloth is what makes the folds. Less looks thin; more looks heavier and stacks wider when the curtains are open.

Do patterned curtains need more fabric?

Yes. Every width has to be cut to a whole number of pattern repeats so the design lines up across the seams, and one extra repeat is allowed for placing it. With a 64 cm repeat, a 290 cm cut becomes 320 cm on every width.

How much lining do I need?

The same number of widths as the curtain fabric, cut a little shorter: your drop plus about 21 cm, because a lining has no heading and no pattern to match. Blackout, dim-out and standard linings all take the same amount.

Can I order fabric from the calculator's figure?

Use it to plan and compare styles. Before anything is cut we measure every window on site and confirm the final quantity with your quote; the ฿1,000 measuring fee is credited in full when you order.
